Describe 10 pet peeves you have

Blogging Challenge Day 11: Describe 10 pet peeves you have

According to dictionary.com, here is the definition of pet peeve.
pet peeve definition :(noun) a major or principal annoyance or complaint.

10 pet peeves of mine

1. Whinning: Ugh, this is like scratching your finger nails down a chalkboard. When my kids do it, I try really hard not to run screaming from the room. LOL! I mean, they are 3 and 6 years old, so it is bound to happen, but I really trip to nip it in the bud!

2. Smoking around your kids:  I hate it when I see someone walking with their kids or with a baby in a stroller and they are smoking. I mean, come on, what are you doing to your child?  My husband smokes, but he is really careful and never does it really around the kids.

3. Liars:  Really all there is to it is HONESTY is the best policy! Enough said!

4. Unattentive or unobservant parents:  I hate it when I am in store or anywhere and the kids are doing anything and everything and the parents are paying attention or just don't care. When I go somewhere, I get all panicky if my daughter goes around the corner on the opposite aisle and I can't see her!

5. Screaming kids:  My kids have never been screamers.  So when I am around a kid that does that, it drives me crazy! It hurts my ears and makes me cringe, big time!

6. Kids who are not seatbelted or in a carseat in the car:  I have pulled up to a stoplight and looked over at the car next to me and seen a kid without a seatbelt. It just breaks me heart. I have literally waited for the person driving or the passenger to look at me and pulled my seatbelt out and then pointed at the kid. Grrr.... what were they thinking?

7. Grammar errors:  I hate it when people use the wrong word for a sentence. Facebook is the worst! Do you know the difference between your/you're, their/there/they're, to/two/too or its/it's?  Or when some spells something wrong or uses an apostrophe in the wrong spot.  ANNOYING!

8. Noisy eaters: If I can hear you chewing, you are too loud and that's not right. I tell my 6 year old daughter this all the time.

9. One sided conversations: I hate when I talk to someone on the phone and they just talk and talk and talk and you can't get a word in edgewise!   They vent or complain about their life or whatever it is and when you start to contribute to the conversation, they talk over you and don't let you talk!

10. People on the phone when they are checking out: After working retail for 7 years, I think that this is so rude. If you have gone through a store, picked out things that you want to purchase, can't you have the common decency to wait to you check out to call someone? The cashier is working and you can take 30 seconds out of your day to talk to them!

11. Saying please and thank you: Ok, after writing #10, I had to include this one.  When checking out somewhere, I think that is just polite to say please and thank you.  Or when you ask an associate for help, PLEASE say please and thank you!

12. Bad tippers: I just thought of this and had to add this one too.  I hate it when people don't tip well. I mean, if the service is bad, then of course, don't tip well.  I have had several friends who worked in the restaurant industry and have learned to tip from 18-20%.

Date Night!

After being together for almost 13 years, married for almost 10 years and 2 kids, I am so deeply in love with my husband!   So, when his mom offered for us to have a date night, we jumped at the chance!  Because she has been staying with us for the past month or so, we have been able to go out on several dates! I am so grateful to her for giving us that chance!

Anyways, I put on my pretty face and even wore a skirt and some pretty shoes! Mind you, I am a jeans and a t-shirt kind of girl, no makeup and usually flip flops! So, when we go out on a date, it is my chance to sort of dress up!

Eric was all gentlemanly and opened the car door for me and helped me in the car. And when we got to the restaurant, he came and opened the door for me again! Nice!

We had dinner at Burgers & Beers in Rancho Mirage. I don't know if you have ever eaten there before, but I highly recommend it. It was so yummy! It gets a little busy at times, but what restaurant doesn't?  We both had a Mexican dish.  Eric had Torta Borracha and I had Chicken Tacos. Dawn was our server and she was super sweet!   She was very attentive and very helpful!   She told us a riddle and wouldn't give us the answer until we got our bill. LOL! So, here it is.... poor people have it, rich people want it and everyone dies with it.  Anyone? Hello, McFly?  Just kidding. The answer is NOTHING! Think about it, poor people don't have anything, rich people want for nothing and what do you die with, nothing! It took us all of dinner to figure it out! ;)  And PS, Dawn said that we were her favorite customers of the night! =)

After dinner, we ran over to Walmart to pick up a few things and then came home.

It was a really nice night for us. Don't get me wrong, we love our kids very much, but every parent needs a break once in a while.  ;)  Plus, it is good for your relationship and makes you realize why you love your spouse so much! So have lots and lots of dates!

The end!

Most Embarrassing Moment

Blogging Challenge Day 10: Most Embarrassing Moment

(This looks like my cat, Collins! Ah!)

I am a super shy person and tend to get embarrassed easily.   But funny enough, I couldn't think of one instance where I was majorly embarrassed.  I even called my sister and asked her if she could remember something and she couldn't either.  We remembered some things that were funny, but not really embarrassing.
So this was the only thing that I could really think of.  I was in high school.  We were walking laps around the football field during P.E.  I was walking with my friends and decided to turn around backwards, so I could talk to them.  As I was walking backwards, I proceeded to run into a pole so hard, that I almost knocked myself out! It hurt like heck and my pride was more hurt than anything.

What is the strangest thing you have blogged about?

Blogging Challenge Day 9: What is the strangest thing you have blogged about?

Since I am new to the blogging world, there isn't really anything strange that I have blogged about. I blog about anything from my cooking to my couponing. If you find that strange, then that is up to you!  ;)

5 Things I am Passionate About

Blogging Challenge Day 8: 5 Things I am Passionate About

The challenge for today is to write about 5 things that we are passionate about.  Only 5? I am sure that I have more than 5 things, but I will modify! LOL!

1. My kids! First and foremost, I am passionate about my kids! I would do anything for them and I try to give them the world! They are what brings me joy and make me smile every day! And like any other parent, there are days where they make me want to pull my hair out, but of course, I still love them!

2. My husband! I love him so much and he makes my world go round! Cheesy, I know, but it's true!  We have been together since 1999 and will celebrate our 10th anniversary in February and I am still madly in love with him!

3. God! I love being a part of a wonderful church family at Church 212! My daughter is currently going to Vacation Bible School. I am so glad that both my kids are going to be raised in the church, just like I was!  We are so blessed with our church!

4. My family!  I am very close to my family.  My parents live in our area and I am glad that they are close by! My kids get to see them quite often. My sister and her family currently live in Texas. I wish that they were closer and that we could see each other more often.  I really thought that our kids would grow up together, but God had other plans for her family!   Growing up, it was just my sister and I, my parents and grandparents. We didn't have a very large family.  Well, when I married my husband, I acquired this HUGE extended family. He has 6 brothers. His mom (my mother-in-law) and I are pretty close.  She has actually been staying with us for over a month, because she came out for my kid's birthday parties.  She has been a super big help! She helps watch the kids and has even given my hubby and I a date night or two!   We are also really close to my hubby's step-dad (his mom's former husband) and his wife. My kids are blessed to have multiple sets of grandparents!

5. Couponing!  I am very passionate about couponing!  Just a little over a year ago, I started couponing. It is such a rush to see how much money I can save for my family!  I have made some awesome friends doing this also. I am part of a coupon group. We help each other out with deals or giving each other coupons. It has been fun and exciting learning how to do all of it! I am slowly trying to each my mother-in-law how to do it, so she can start saving money for her family too!

What is your dream job?

Blogging Challenge Day 7: What Is Your Dream Job?

What is my dream job? When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a teacher. I went to college and everything for it. Because of financial issues, I never finished school and now I could never see myself as a teacher! Crazy how time changes how you feel!

So, my dream job you ask?  Hmmm... I would love to be my own boss and work from home. Doing what, I have no idea! LOL! Honestly, I wish that I could be paid to scrapbook or coupon, or to be on Facebook, or on Pinterest, or ... guy, the list could go on and on!   I have so many hobbies, but don't always have time for them!   But seriously, I wish that I could just stay home with my kids and make tons of money! A mom/wife's work is NEVER done!

Favorite Cartoon

Blogging Challenge Day 6: Favorite Cartoon

Wow, only pick one? That is a hard decision!?!

My sister and I watched alot of the classic cartoons, like Mickey Mouse or Looney Tunes.  If I had to pick one, it would probably be Duck Tales. I even saw the movie in the theater.   I more remember watching California Dreams on Saturday mornings! Even though that isn't a cartoon, that was definitely one of my favorites!

The Top 5 Things That Make Me Happy

Blogging Challenge Day 5: The Top 5 Things That Make Me Happy

Blogging Challenge Day 5: The Top 5 Things That Make Me Happy

1. God/Family/Friends - I had to use this as my first one, just as Live2Save2Live did! This truly is an understatement. God, my family and my friends make me over the moon happy! I could not survive if I did not have this support group around me!

2. Shopping - I love to shop! It has become even more fun, since I started couponing! It is my personal goal to save the most money that I can! I get so excited when I see that I saved 50% or more on my grocery bill.  Scratch that, I am happy when I save any money for that matter! ;)

3. Scrapbooking - I really enjoy scrapbooking. It makes me happy when my daughter wants to pull out her baby books and look at all the love that I put into them! I don't get to do it as much anymore, because with two kids and work, I just haven't had the time. I really need to make time for it, because I feel bad that my son doesn't even have one completed album!

4. Facebook - Ok, I know that sounds so cheesy, but it's true! I love logging into Facebook everyday and staying connected to my family and friends. In our busy lives, it is so easy to lose contact with someone, but Facebook helps erase those miles!  Plus, I have made some really great online friends that I treasure!

5. Pinterest!  Oh, how addicted I am! Hi, my name is Heidi and I am a Pinterest addict! LOL! I have only been pinning since January of this year, but I have 92 boards and over 4000 pins! Yes, I am an addict! I love it, because it is my go to place for recipes and almost anything else that you want to find!

Wow, this challenge is going to be kind of hard. What would you tell yourself at 16? Hmmm...

1. Don't study so hard!

2. Be more confident!

3. Don't be so shy!

4. Listen to your parents! (I really did listen to my parents! It was usually my sister that was the one in trouble! I love you, Laura, in case you read this!) Even though you are 16 years old and think that you know anything and everything, you really don't!

5. It is OK that you never had a boyfriend until after high school. It took a horribly bad relationship to find Mr. Right, anyways!

6. Have some fun and a social life!

7. Don't be so embarrassed by how you feel about the guy that you were crushing on!

8. Dare to dream bigger than scholastics!

9. Don't be intimidated by the popular girls in school!

10. You are exactly who God wants you to be! You have a lot of room to grow, but that is life and He will guide you through it!

What Do You Like About Being A Blogger?

Live2Save2Live Blogging Challenge Day 3

What Do You Like About Being A Blogger?

That is a good question. I never thought that I would be one to start a blog. Who would want to read anything that I wrote?  I am just a normal everyday mom and wife who loves her family, loves to cook and try out new recipes and to coupon!  So after several Facebook posts about my crock pot adventures, an old friend suggested that I start a blog.  At first, I didn't want to and then I thought, what the heck! So I did and the Adventures of Heidi the Happy Homemaker was created!

I find that writing this blog is very cathartic! If I can share some yummy recipes or some good coupon deals with anyone who takes the time to read it, then that's the reason that I do it! I like posting new entries! I only have four followers, but hey, at least someone is reading my blog!

My 3 Fears

Live2Save2Live Blogging Challenge Day 2

Blogging Challenge Day 2: Describe 3 Legitimate Fears and Explain How They Became Fears

1. Scared of the dark: I hate to admit this, but I know several other adults that also have the same fear, so I am not a minority! ;) I have been scared of the dark since I was a little girl. I have always had to sleep with a night light on!  I have a night time ritual. I have to make sure that the closet doors are completely closed (no gaps with the darkness of the closet showing) and then turn on my white noise machine.  My husband (who is a night owl), comes and tucks me in.  I love that he does this for me every night! He will cover me up with the sheet and make sure my foot sticks out from under the sheet.  Oh, I am a bit obsessive about that. LOL! Crazy party of one here! ;)

2. Any of my loved ones dying: I was very blessed to have both my maternal great-grandparents live until I was an adult.  I am terrified of the day when my grandparents pass away. My sister and I have always been very close to my mom's parents. They are in their late 80s, so I know that the day is coming, but how do you ever prepare for something like that.  I am also scared of anything happening to my kids. I am very blessed for them to be healthy and not ever really had a major sicknesses.   To this day, I check them every night before I go to bed to make sure that they are breathing! They are now 3 and 6 years old. I can't help it. I am their mom and it is my job to make sure that they are alright!

3. Never achieving my dreams or goals in life:  When you are a little kid, you dream about what you want to be when you grow up! I knew that I would get married, have kids and I wanted to be a teacher. I thought that I would have 2 kids by the time that I was 26. LOL! Well, God and life has a way of changing your plans, for the better, I might say.  Right out of high school, I went to college to become a teacher. After 2 1/2 years, I had to come home and work, because I couldn't afford it anymore. Now, I am not even interested in being a teacher. Funny, how things change! I met my hubby and we got married when I was 25 (a few months before turning 26). I  had my daughter right before I turned 29 and had my son right before I turned 32.  I waited a while to start my family, but I love it and wouldn't change it for the world!  My husband and I always say when we are old and gray and can make our own house, this is how it would be....  Well, that is my dream, to own our own home! I pray for that every day! We currently live in a 2 bedroom apartment, which we have so outgrown! We have been looking for a larger place since before my 3 year old son was born. Sometimes, it feels like it will never happen. We can't afford it and it gets so depressing at times. But I have to have faith and know that God has a plan for our lives and only HE knows what is best! Thank you, Lord!

10 Random Facts About Me

So, I received an email today from one of my coupon bloggers.  I think that I might join in the challenge.  So, the Blogging Challenge Day 1 is 10 random facts about me.... so here goes!

1. I have what I like to call monkey toes, meaning that I can pick up things with my toes.
2. When I was 13 years old, I had my first job working for a real estate broker at Coldwell Banker.  I would fill out cards to her clients and even sign her name!  I got my first paycheck ever!
3. I love to watch tv! When it is fall season time, I probably DVR or watch on average about 35+ hours of tv a week! It is crazy, but I love it!  I hate it though, when we get into a new show and they cancel it after the first season! (Terra Nova, Alcatraz, Gifted Man, Missing, The Finder, there are too many to name for this season)
4. I am actually a really shy person, but believe it or not, I was in drama in high school.  I actually had a lead in one of our plays!  I would totally consider myself an introvert, but have become a little bit more outgoing as an adult!
5. I don't drink coffee, but I love iced coffee!
6. The same goes for tea. I don't like hot tea, but I LOVE iced tea!
7. I am totally a night owl. I love sleeping in and hate mornings, but that's kind of hard to do with a 3 year old and a 6 year old! LOL!
8. I love to travel, but really haven't had the time or money to do so!
9. I sleep on the right side of the bed. When I sleep on my husband's side, it feels weird! LOL!
10.  I am an avid scrapbooker. I love to scrapbook, even though I don't have the time to do it. I have around 15 or so completed albums!
11. Here's an extra fact, just for fun. I snort when I laugh really hard. I can't believe that I am admitting this, LOL! Along with the snorting, I have this laugh, that we call the goose laugh. When I laugh really really hard, it just comes out and it sounds like a goose honking!  But hey, the snorting is genetic! My great-grandma did it, my grandma does it, my mom does it, I do it and now my kids do it! So, what a thing to pass on, right! ;)

So those are my random facts. Anyone else feel like sharing? ;)

Life....

So, I have been really busy with life and everything going on. In the last two months, we have celebrated my daughter's 6th birthday, Mother's Day, my daughter finishing Kindergarten/her first year of school, Father's Day, my son's 3rd birthday (which happened to fall on Father's Day this year!), and my daughter losing her 5th tooth!  So much has gone on!

I haven't really had a chance to try any new recipes out.  Well, that's not exactly true. I did try this one out.

http://www.littlebitfunky.com/2011/11/what-i-made-for-monday-naughty-donuts.html

My daughter making the holes in the biscuits.

Some biscuits with holes cut out, the holes and some ready for holes

My son putting holes in the biscuits.

Frying the donuts in the pan

The finished donuts!

These were easy to make and yummy!

Besides this, it has been super hot here and I have just not wanted to cook. Anyone else go through that? Blah!

So, I will try and post more entries, but for now, keep cool!
