Fall decor

This past week, I visited a friend of mine and she gave me some nice decor items.  One of the items was this cool white box frame.  I knew that I wanted to create something with it.  Today, I was hit with some inspiration!  I had printed out this awesome Jasmine Nora Jones free fall printable from Studio Calico a few weeks ago.  I trimmed it down to fit into the box and then glued it down.

This week, I had found these amazing paper flowers at Michaels.  They were regularly priced $4.99 each, but were 90% off and I bought them for $0.49 each!  I had a hard time not buying them all! LOL!  They are so pretty and I could see many fall projects ahead!   I looked at the printable and decided which flowers I was going to use.

I used a hot glue gun and glued them down. I originally was going to put flowers all the way around the frame, but when I started gluing them down, I liked how they looked with only the flowers in the corners!  I also used some fall leaves on it. 

So pretty! 

I LOVE how it turned out!  It is already on display in my hutch!

Fall garland

Michaels has been having some awesome clearance this week for Halloween and fall products!  I bought this ribbon, regularly $9.99, for $1 each and the blue twine, regularly $2.99, for $0.89!  I knew that I wanted to make a fall project with it, but wasn't sure exactly what. I had pinned a burlap banner on Pinterest last week and decided to do a version of that.  I measured off three, seven inch pieces of both the orange and striped ribbons.  I measured one inch from the top and folded that over.

With a regular black Sharpie marker, I wrote out one of the letters on each of the pieces.

 

I cut off a piece of twine long enough to hang it, and then started hot gluing the top inch down, around the twine. 

I had some simple fall leaves that I cut off the plastic pieces and glued on the first and last letter.

I am so happy how it came out! I made this garland for under $3 and it turned out really cute!!!

I have already hung it up! I can't wait to put up the rest of my Thanksgiving decorations!

A possibly Nailed it Pinterest moment and fall fun...

So, I saw this recipe on Pinterest and I thought that it might be fun to try it out with the kids.  I had bought this old fashioned apple peeler at Target this week! I hate peeling apples for the kids, because I waste so much of the fruit cutting the skin off with a knife. No more of that, with this cooler peeler, it only takes the skin off! So excited, because it also cores it and slices it, all at once! Pretty cool!

First off, my munchkins helped me by opening up the caramels and putting them in the pan.  I used half the bag and put in 1 tablespoon of water.  When making the whole bag, it called for 2 tablespoons of water, so I thought that we were good!

I turned the heat on low and started stirring it as it slowly started to melt.  It started scorching at one point and I didn't even have the heat up that high!

This was my first time using this, and it was pretty cool! I used a melon baller to get chunks of the apple out.

The kids used pretzel sticks to stick in, but it wasn't that easy and they kept breaking!

I had poured the melted caramel into a bowl, and we started to dip the apples in.  Easier said than done! LOL!  The pretzels kept pulling out and the caramel wasn't sticking!

I finally used a fork to dip the apple pieces in and then stuck a toothpick in them and put them on wax paper to harden.

And this comes the part where it became a Nailed It Pinterest moment. LOL!  For those of you who have never seen it, there are pictures where there are perfectly done Pinterest recipes and then the second picture is your disastrous attempt! LOL! NAILED IT!  The caramel was sliding right off the apples.  Within an hour, it was an apple piece on a toothpick with a puddle of caramel around it. I read on the Pinterest pin that sometimes when you have too much water or the caramel is too hot or the apple isn't right, it just doesn't work.   But hey, the kids and I had lots of fun making them and they were tasty no matter which way you ate them! ;)

We also did a Halloween craft today.  For those of you who know me, I love me some clearance stuff and even more so, holiday clearance stuff! Well, I had picked up these Halloweens masks last year for 90% off! That's right, people, 90% off!!!  I got the masks for $0.20 each, figuring that they would be fun craft project!

Washi tape anyone?

Hi, my name is Heidi and I have this obsession with washi tape!   Ok, let's be perfectly honest here, I have an obsession with all craft supplies! LOL!  But this week, it has been washi tape galore!  Between the sales at Michael's and Joann's (or even Staples last week, where I found some Scotch Expressions on clearance for $1 and got 12 rolls for free with the coupons that I had!), I found some really awesome deals on washi and got some fun new patterns!  I use it for everything, but this week, I really had fun making homemade birthday cards with it! 

Any who.... I have overrun my little box that I was keeping them in and wanted to put them in something larger, where I didn't have to dig through all of them to find the one I want.  Plus the OCD side of me wanted to organize them by color and not haphazardly throw them in a craft bin! Ha!  

So, here was my project for the day.  I had this empty box from work, upcycyling it, baby!    I also had this wonderful washi adhesive sheets that I wanted to try out. This set had 5 different patterns, but I knew that I would probably never use the brown one for anything, so here goes...

The white on the sheets becomes transparent as it is laid down, so I wanted to cover up the words on the top of the box.  I took a white piece of paper and simply glue sticked it down on the top of the box.  I used a plastic gift card (from Starbucks, where else, lol) to smooth out the sheet.

 

Then, with my daughter's help, I gently laid the washi sheet on top of it, a little bit at a time, smoothing it out as I went.  The sheet was big enough to cover the whole top and parts of the side.

Now, I needed to cover up the sides of the box.  I had this glittery silver tape from the dollar bin at Target. I have had it for a while and it doesn't stick very well, so I  used the glue stick again and glued it on the edges... it worked out well.  

You would think that brown and sparkly silver wouldn't go together, but I like how it turned out!

Again, with my daughter's help, we organized the washi by color and patterns.... I have so many, but I LOVE IT!   I just started lining them up in the box.  I realized that I wasn't going to fit all of them in one box.  

Washi anyone??? ;)

I quickly made up another box that I had, using the same glittery silver tape, gluing it down, and then another black and white washi tape that I just covered the top in, one row at a time.

I like having them all in on spot and I can easily see what I have!

Perfectly imperfect

I finally got up the nerve to do another verse in my new journaling Bible.  Our pastor had recently concluded his teachings on the book of Hebrews. I had learned so many things.  The verse that stuck with me was Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."  Pastor Mike said that this verse was the same in every Bible translation there was!  

My supplies: a ruler, Sharpie fine point pens, Prang colored pencils (that I had won in the lovely giveaway from Lori Leissner), a Recollections rotary date stamp (that I just bought today at Michaels with a 50% regular priced item coupon!) and of course washi tape (also from Lori!)

I was trying to figure out how I was going to design my page.  I looked on some of my Pinterest boards: Doodletastic, Printastic and Journaling Bible. I saw a fun border that I liked and I started with that. I wanted to try some fancy lettering, but I opted to go with my own handwriting, which I happen to like! ;)

I drew straight lines with the ruler and then put washi tape down, forming a box.  I then stamped some squiggly lines around it, which look like a doodle. It was my first time using the stamp, so it is a bit messy, but that's ok! 

I wrote out the verse in pencil, very lightly to decide how I wanted to space it. I then erased it and started to write it out with the Sharpie pen.

And then, this happened....

I made a MISTAKE! I started to spell Christ wrong. I wanted to CRY! After trying to make this page so perfect, I had misspelled a very easy word.  

I tried to fix it and I couldn't get past how ugly it looked!

Then it struck me, you know what I am not perfect and God loves me no matter what! It's ok if I made a mistake. I am only human after all!

I put a sticker over the misspelled word and rewrote it, spelling it correctly this time!

I highlighted the verse in yellow colored pencil.

I am happy with how it turned out!

Color Me Runner 5K

COLOR ME RUNNER 5K EVENT

All pristine and white before the race started!

On this past Sunday, at the Eagle Falls Golf Course, was the Color Me Runner 5K event.  This event was to benefit The Well in the Desert, feeding the hungry and the homeless! An awesome cause!

Laura and I arrived a little before the 8 a.m. start time.  There were about 300 or so people there.  People of all ages and sizes and lots of families.

The event people made an announcement and the race was on.  They started throwing the vegetable dye color on us as soon as we started. Throughout the race, there were 2 other stations where they threw the color on us.  It was literally people digging their hands into boxes and throwing the color on you as you walked or ran past them!

We walked at a nice leisurely pace.  It was a big loop around the golf course.   We did the loop twice, which equaled around 3 miles, or so they told us! 

 

When we got to the end of the course, they had this fun balloon arch that you went through.

 

 

Laura and I decided it would be fun to go through the arch like we were going in slow motion... yes, I'm a dork and I thought it would be funny!

I literally heard the theme music from the Bionic Woman or the Six Million Dollar Man running through my head when we did this!

  So funny!

We had lots of fun and got covered in color! I would have liked way more color, but we still got pretty doused!

I did it!

 

We had to take the token selfie and post it on Instagram, saying WE DID IT!!!!!!  

We survived!!!!!!!!!!

The only casualty was this nasty blister on my heal.  By the time we made to the end of the race, I just took my shoes off and walked barefoot back to the car, where I had very wisely brought flip flops!

 I love this side by side comparison that Laura made! Before and after 3 miles and we are still smiling! I totally thought that I would be like this is my one and only race, but I had so much fun, I would totally do it again!!!!

To celebrate our race victory, we went out to breakfast at Farmer Bros. for this yummy breakfast! The breakfast of champions after our  hard and treacherous (SO kidding!) race!!!

When I got home, I took pictures of my shirt, to show all the colors.

I had so much fun and would love to do another one!   But let me tell you, the color is really hard to get off! I had to scrub and scrub, but it was totally worth it!
