August

The month of August has been very eventful!  Here are some of the highlights!

My daughter started 1st grade!!! Sniff sniff, as mama wipes a tear away! She is growing up way too fast!

My baby boy potty trained!  Doesn't his toushy look so cute in big boy underroos?  I called him my baby boy the other day and he told me, "No, mama, me a big boy!" So now, I have to call my three year old a big boy, but he will ALWAYS be my baby!

I broke the head of my radius bone in my right arm. No fun! I have broke a finger before and many a times my pinky toes, but never a major bone. And believe me, I would never want to do it again!

I still managed to get some shopping in, even if I had to send Eric to do it! ;)  He went to CVS for me and got $43 worth of stuff for $1.22 out the door! NICE!

Even with all the good and the bad that has happened, I thank God for what I have and what He has given me!

Radius

On Monday, August 27th, I had my appointment with the ortho specialist.  My daughter was starting school that day, so my dad took me, so Eric could take and pick up our daughter from school.  My dad arrived at my house at 7:30am.  My appointment was for 10am, but they had told me to come 30-45 minutes early.   We got on the road and got to Riverside County Medical Center around 9:15am.  I checked in and started the process and oh, what a long process it was.  After all the paperwork and billing was taken care of (hours later), I was finally able to see the doctor, well, sort of.

A nurse called me back and weighed me and took my blood pressure and then sent me back to the waiting room to what? Wait for it, wait!  ;)   Then, another nurse called me back and I sat and waited inside the ortho clinic for an x-ray.  I had two x-rays taken and then was sent back to my dad and the waiting room again.  Once again, my name was called and finally I was going to see the actual doctor.

The doctor took off my splint and asked me some questions about my injury.  He told me he would be right back and went to take a look at my x-rays.

I then found out some good news and an answer to our prayers.  I don't have to have surgery on my arm.
And I didn't even have to have a cast put on! According to the x-rays they took, the ortho specialist said that I have a radial head fracture and it was not my elbow that was broken, as was previously suspected. The bone is perfectly lined up and the best treatment is early range of movement. What that means, is that I have to
stretch it out two times a day and am not supposed to use my arm. As it gets stronger, I can move it more.

This is the picture that the doctor drew of my bone break.  Your arm consists of three bones, the humerus (your upper arm), the ulna and the radius (the two bones in your lower arm).  I fractured the head of the radius bone, where it fits into the elbow socket.  Very stiff and painful, if moved the wrong way!

Actual bone diagram

After spending over 5 hours at the county hospital for my appointment, I went home with my arm in a sling and no purple cast, well no cast at all! I had planned on asking for purple if they were going to put a cast on!  I told my dad that I kind of felt let down, because I was totally expecting to get a cast.  But then again, I can shower without having to have a trash bag on my arm!

So for now, I am home from work for the next month.  I will see the specialist again in three weeks and we will go from there.

I am really grateful to my dad for taking me! I got to spend the day with him (which is a rare occasion)  and have a yummy lunch with him! Thanks, Dad! I love you!

Today, I am feeling much better. My arm is getting stronger, but I have to be careful, because it does get really sore.  I can almost stretch it out straight now, almost!  It is just hard, because it is my right arm and I am right handed!

It's kind of hard to tell from these two pictures, but right at my elbow pit (lol), there is a bit of swelling on the top of my arm. But after looking at the bone diagram, that is to be expected, because that is where the break is!

I also discovered these bruises as I was getting dressed today. Considering how hard I fell last week, I was really surprised that I wasn't more black and blue!

God is good and I continue to pray for healing!

Cleaning is dangerous!

Tuesday night, around 10:30pm, I scared the crap out of myself. I had decided to do some cleaning, since the kids are asleep. I had climbed up on the desk to dust the picture frames. I ended up knocking a picture off the wall, which knocked over the bat that we keep by the front door and made a really loud noise, and I was worried that it would wake up the kids.  I then went to step off the desk and onto the chair with the broken spring, my ankle twisted and I fell to the floor trying to catch myself. I heard my arm pop and thought that I had just broke my arm! Luckily, my phone was on the desk and I called Eric and told him to come home. He came home and checked me, but he didn't think I broke anything, but I might have sprained it pretty severely. It was incredibly painful to move it. He gave me some ibuprofen and we iced it.  I went to bed and had my arm on a pillow. Every little move that I made, would send shooting pain through my arm. I slept horribly. At 7am, I got up and took some more ibuprofen and iced it again. I was able to get some rest doing that.

I woke up and went online. I had posted in my mom's group about what had happened, asking for advice.  For non-life threatening injuries, you can make an appointment at the ER! So, I made an appointment at 12:30pm at JFK ER.

Eric and the kids took me down there. The first doctor thought that I had dislocated my elbow. He sent  me to get an xray to confirm it. If it was dislocated, then they would have to put me in a bed give me meds to relax me and then pop it back in!  I didn't want that!

I waited and they called me to go getthe xrays. They did 3 xrays of my arm. The nurse and I were looking at them and couldn't see a break, but we weren't the experts.  I waited again for the doctor to call me.

The doctor called me back and said that nothing was broken or dislocated, so he was giving me pain meds and sending me home. The other doctor was like, no, she has a fracture.

I broke my elbow! I have a basic cast from my wrist to the middle of my upper arm, it's in a splint and a sling. They gave me vicodin and motrin. As of ast night, I had only taken the vic so far. Still in pain.

I was told that breaks in the elbow are way worse than my arm breaking! I am not supposed to drive. I have to go see an ortho doctor and they will put a real cast on it. JFK doctors and nurses were super nice!

Look at what my wonderful hubby went and got me last night! IN-N-OUT! Yummy!

Today, I'm feeling a little better, but it's still really painful. I woke up around 4am, in pain. Eric helped me re-wrap it, because my hand was super swollen! I then slept on the couch the rest of the night with my arm propped up, and the swelling went down. The ortho doc isn't in today, so I left a message.

My adventure continues...

Day 30

Day 30: Three good things that have happened in the last 30 days.

Once again I am at the end of another 30 day blog challenge. So, three good things that have happened in the last 30 days....

1.  My kids were blessed with some great hand-me-downs from two of my friends!  It is amazing how God works! Jacob was needing some new shorts and my friend, who has two boys of her own, posted on Facebook how she was cleaning out their closet and did anybody want them?  I was like, ME ME ME!  I love hand-me-downs! I feel like it's Christmas when I start to go through the bags of clothes! ;)  Thank you to Linda and Shelby for the hand-me-downs!

2. My car overheated and broke down earlier this month.  My husband kind of suspected that it was the radiator that had cracked. We have been having some horrible heat and humidity. Well, the good thing that happened, was that it was under warranty! We had replaced it a few years ago and Autozone has a lifetime warranty on their radiators! So, we didn't have to buy a new one! I was happy about that. But even more happy, that my handy hubby was able to fix it himself! I love you, babe!

3. This past month, I have gotten some great deals with my couponing and I consider that a good thing! Who wouldn't want to save money for their family?

Now that this challenge is over, maybe I will do yet another one! That is, if I can find one!

Day 29

Day 29: Something that you could never get tired of doing!

Something that I could never get tired of doing? Well, isn't it obvious? I love to coupon!  It also goes hand in hand with the fact that I also love to shop!   I love to save money for my family and get great deals! Who would give that up?  Crazy people!  Couponing is a way of life and even if I won the lottery, I would still coupon! I have always been a bargain shopper.  I prefer to shop the clearance racks vs. paying full price!  And I have a great group of friends who also coupon!

Day 28

Day 28: What stresses you out?

I wish that my life was a stress free zone, but unfortunately, it's not! I mean, I am human after all! So, what stresses me out? Everything! Well not really, but maybe sort of. =(  Life, bills, money, our jobs, my car, where I live....     I pray for God to give me peace, but again, I am human.

But you know what, I am thankful everyday for what I have! I have a loving family, a home to live in, a car to drive and both my husband and I have jobs. With our world is such turmoil, there are many things that I shouldn't stress over, when I have them! Thank you Lord for your blessings on our lives!

Target steals, I mean deals!

Today, I was supposed to go to work,  I got up, showered and got ready. I was getting ready to walk out and checked my phone. My boss had left me a voicemail that he was feeling sick and not to come into the office today, because he didn't want to spread any germs! So, I got to work at home today. So what do I do? I go to TARGET! I had planned on going after work, but instead I went in the morning. It was nice to take my time and not rush! I "only" spent a few hours there! LOL! I love Target and the great deals that I can find and today was no exception!

PD Target 1st transaction, Total OOP $2.77!
The lip glosses were on clearance for either $1.51 or $1.75. I used $1/1 MQ and got them for either $0.51 or $0.75 each!

PD Target 2nd transaction, Total OOP $13.99
My total before Qs was $37.77 and retail cost + taxes would have been $100.50! That just blew me away when I figured that out! Crazy!

-1 clearance headband $1.78
-2 clearance clip-on ties $2.68 each
-2 Glade Expressions starter kits $2.99 each, used $3/1 MQ = free!
-1 Herbal Essences $1.64
-1 Herbal Essences $3.29, used $1/2 TQ and $3/2 MQ and paid $0.93 for both
-3 Pixi nail polishes $2.40 each - $2 TQ from the beauty bag = $0.40 each
-2 Maybelline lip glosses $1.75 - $1/1 MQ = $0.75 each
-2 Maybelline lip glosses $1.51 - $1/1 MQ = $0.51 each
-1 Revlon lipstick $3.28 - $3/1 TQ - $0.28!!!  This was my favorite deal of the day, because this was normally priced at $10.99!

PD Target 3rd transaction, Total OOP $1.88!
Maybelline lip glosses $1.51 - $1/1 MQ = $0.51 each

I did 3 transactions, because I was following the new Target coupon policy that states that you can only have 4 like coupons per transaction. Since I was buying 11 of the lip glosses and using the same $1/1 MQ for all of them, I did 3 transactions!

I am super excited with the deals that I found today! LOVE Target!

Day 27

Day 27: Day 27: Photo of your city

I live in Palm Desert, California. It is in the Coachella Valley, by Palm Springs. We are a very touristy town and area.   I have lived here since the summer before second grade, so almost my whole life. I hate the hot hot summers, but love where I live. It is a very beautiful area!  I am also very fortunate that my parents live here too.

Day 26

Day 26: Think back to how you were 5 years ago. How have you changed since then?

Five years ago was 2006.  My daughter was born in May of 2006.  I was a first time mom.  Our lives had changed forever, for the better! We had our first child! We were adjusting to being parents and figuring out how life worked with a baby!

Five years later, my daughter is now six years old and we have a three year old little boy.  I would say now, that I am a more experienced parent. By no means, am I an expert, but I have learned alot in the last five years!

So, how have I changed? I would say I am more confident as a parent. I would do anything for my kids.  I think that I have become more confident as a person too. I am incredibly shy, but I try really hard to be more outgoing. Well, maybe! ;)  I have made some great friends over the last year or so, because of my couponing. I am glad that it has helped bring me out of my shell!

Day 25

Day 25: Something that you miss

Hmmm... something that I miss?  Being debt free!  I hate being burdened by bills.  Why does our world have to run on money? Ack! Why do we have to be adults and have responsibilities? It is a scary thing.  You go to college and end up with tons of bills. Then you work, to pay for college, even if you didn't finish, like me.  Then you get married and have kids and you have more bills. I wish that I could be one of those lucky people who are debt free, but I am not.

But the first step for us to become debt free, was no more credit cards!  Every since we stopped using our credit cards, I have had such a sense of relief! It's not like we were going out and buying frivolous things, we were paying our bills. It is hard when you barely live paycheck to paycheck. Or when you are paying out more than you are making.

Needless to say, we are working on becoming debt free! Then, we can start saving for our own home! Thank you, Lord!

Day 19

Day 19: Things you want to say to an ex

When my ex broke up with me, I thought that my life was over.  I don't even say his name, that is how much I can't stand this person.   But you know what, in reality, my life had just began! But if I have ever had to see his sorry face again, I would tell him a BIG FAT THANK YOU!!!!! Breaking up with me was the best thing that ever happened to me!

It lead me to the man that I was meant to be with! The man who treats me like a queen!  The man who loves me and cherishes me!  The man who married me and became the father of my children! The man who works hard to provide for our family!

So once again, nasty ex, thank you!

Day 18

Day 18: Something you crave

Cereal!
This is actually the top of my fridge!

The side of my fridge, where my extra cereal is!

I almost forgot about my blog today! Oooppps, better late than never! Ok, so something that I crave???? Well, CEREAL!  I eat cereal for breakfast everyday.  When I am hungry and want a snack, I eat cereal! I love cereal! And with my couponing, I can find really good deals on cereal! We almost always have about 8 boxes open on top of the fridge. I like variety!  My kids are big cereal eaters too!  Hmmmm, cereal, maybe I will have a bowl right now! ;)

Day 16

Day 16: Your opinion about your body and how comfortable you are with it

Is anyone ever really truly comfortable in their own body? I know that I am not! To be honest, I have struggled with bad self image for a long time. I don't like the way that I look.  I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life.  But I hate to work out and am too lazy to do it. There, I said it! I want to be more healthy and be more active for my kids. I just need to get off my butt and do it!

Even though, I hate the way I look, I really try to be positive about my self image for my six year old daughter. I don't want her growing up thinking that she is fat and struggle with the same issues. I want her to look at herself in the mirror and KNOW that she IS beautiful in each and every way.  She has blond hair, blue eyes and is super tall and skinny!

But all that matters to me, is that my husband loves me, all of me, rolls and all! ;)

Day 14

Day 14: A tv show that I am currently addicted too

I have been watching So You Think You Can Dance since the very first season! I love this show!

Lemons

You know that old adage, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade?  Well, I don't want any lemonade! I want life to be fair, but life isn't fair and never will be.

After work yesterday, I had an errand to run. After I went to the Super Target, I was driving home on the freeway. I looked up in the rear view mirror and saw smoke.  I looked down at my gauge and my car was overheating.  I called Eric and pulled off into a parking lot to let it cool off. Luckily, it was only 100 degrees yesterday and overcast, so it wasn't super hot. Hey, it could have been 118!  I sat in the car and waited for it to cool off. After about a half an hour, I tried to start it up to make it home and it wouldn't start. It was just too hot. So, I called my best friend and she came to my rescue and picked me up and took me home. After work, Eric and a buddy of his went to get the car. Long story short, my radiator is cracked and needs to be replaced. This summer has been a rough one for my car. We have had to deal with no AC all summer and now this. Sucks!  But hey, it could be much worse! I just wish that I could get a new car, but we can't afford that right now!

I went to the Indio Super Target to get some back to school deals.  I got some really good deals!

Day 13

Day 13: Goals

I would have to say one of my top goals in life is to own our own home! My husband and I have been renting for over 10 years and it is time for something to be completely ours!  I would love to own our own home! Right now, our credit is pretty shot, so we can't afford to buy a house. Ever since my son was born three years ago, we have totally outgrown our two bedroom apartment.  I have been looking and looking for something bigger, but haven't been able to find one that we can afford.   God knows what is best for our lives and I keep believing in Him and He will lead us on the right path!
