Last week, I was looking through my Instagram feed and saw a post by Valerie Wieners. She is an amazing artist! She had posted a picture of a Bible. She had used her artistic ability and decorated a page in her journaling Bible. Journaling Bible? What is that, you may ask? I had never heard of such a thing!!! I clicked on her hashtag #journalingBible and it pulled up all these beautiful images of people creating what they called art worship in their Bibles. Valerie had heard about the journaling Bible from one of her friends, so I followed the trail. Her friend had found out about it from this awesome blogger, Shanna Noel. Well, one thing led to another, and I ended up creating a Pinterest board titled Journaling Bible. In looking at journaling Bible pins to pin to my new board, I found Shanna's blog. In her blog, she shared about a Facebook group called Journaling Bible Community. I requested to join the group. I was approved and proceeded to stalk the entire page!!! I was just blown away with how beautiful these pages were in the journaling Bibles. I had never seen this before. I can't even put my Bible on the ground, I think it's disrespectful, let alone COLOR in it!!! I had barely started to write in my Bible, while listening to sermons.
The group had a file listing suggestions on where you could purchase a journaling Bible. I started researching and found some different ones on Amazon. The most common version is ESV, which stands for English Standard Version. I am used to NIV (New International Version), but they are almost the same! I had some credit on my Amazon account, so I knew that I wanted to purchase it from there. I am an avid couponer, and I use an app called SavingStar where you add coupons to your account and you get credit when you purchase those items at certain stores. Well, I had enough in my account to cash out and with that and the gift card amount already on my Amazon account, I was able to purchase my new journaling Bible for FREE!!!!!
Couponing paid for my new Bible! How amazing is that?!?!
I received my Bible today, thanks to prime shipping from Amazon! I didn't even know where to start. I had been telling Eric about the Bible, the whole time I was trying to figure out which one to buy. When it came today, he asked me, what is your first doodle going to be? I said, I have no clue! A sweet lady commented on my picture in the group and said, "Tell your husband you will not know what your first doodle will be until God directs your hand!" Wow, how fitting is that?
The verse that kept popping into my head was Psalm 46:10. "Be still and know that I am God!" I have to always remember that God is in control of my life. No matter how hard I pray or want something to happen, He knows the plans for my life and the way my path should go! He is the PILOT and am I following Him! So, I chose to do that verse in my new Bible!
I looked on Pinterest for some hand lettering ideas and sketched out what I wanted to do.
I was ready to go!
The things that I used to do my first page: Crayola Twistables colored pencils, Cra-z-art colored pencils, eraser and mechanical pencil
I drew it and then erased it and then drew it again and erased it again. It definitely was a process! I used colored pencils and stickers and ended up lining the letters with my Creative Memories pens.
I might add some more to it, to jazz it up, but I am happy with the end result!
